Our client contracted Ricardo to design and develop a new 1.6-litre in line six-cylinder powertrain for their new premium-sector touring motorcycle. This new bike had to be the best in its class, with emphasis on performance, refinement, fuel economy, smoothness and sound quality. It also had to ride like a normal motorcycle, with excellent ergonomics and high levels of lean angle – no mean feat for an in line six machine.
Ricardo responsibilities included the design, procurement and development of the prototype powertrains, and delivery of validated units for integration into client development vehicles. Ricardo continued to support the client with vehicle development activities and production support and updates through to SOP plus 90 days.
The bikes have been an exceptionally successful product for the client, early press reports citing the engine as being “one of the most intoxicating engines in motorcycling”.
