Low-cost ECU and AMT application

Low-cost ECU and AMT application
16 November 2015

Ricardo was initially requested to develop a very low-cost ECU for a single cylinder four-stroke engine, allowing an Asian OEM to manufacture their own ECUs, significantly reducing the add-on cost of converting their engines from carburetor to fuel injection. Ricardo developed the hardware and software, giving the OEM the technology ownership, and allowing them to manufacture the ECUs themselves, or use local suppliers.

As an extension to this project, Ricardo was requested to develop a TCU module, to allow the addition of an automated manual transmission option to the OEM product range, providing very significant fuel consumption benefits in comparison with their existing CVT-equipped vehicles.
